(Intense Pulse Light)

IPL photorejuvenation improves the appearance of photo-aged skin, , most benign brown pigments(sun-induced freckles) and redness.  Rosecea patients also have temporary benefit,  it's not a cure and future treatments would be needed.. The treatment is non-ablative with some downtime.(Not recommended for dark skin).

Benefits & Advantages

  • Can be used on any part of the body
  • Provides even skin tone
  • Stimulates collagen production
  • Helps remove sun-induced age-spots and broken capillaries

How Intense Pulse Light (IPL) Works
The IPL is a broad spectrum of light which is transmitted through a small transparent hand piece. Cut-off filter in the hand piece change the wavelength allowing it to be optimized for different skin types. The light penetrates the tissue and is absorbed by either blood when treating vascular lesions or the melanin when treating pigmented lesions. The body's natural processes remove the injured tissue. Four to six treatments are done at three week intervals.

The Experience
You will be provided with laser shield sticky pads or metal eye shields. Cold gel is applied to the area being treated. A quick snapping  and a warm to hot feeling occurs during treatment.  Cold compresses are applied afterward. Treatment usually last about 20-30minutes on the face.

The Downtime
Treatments can vary each time. Some patients may experience stripping, bruising, redness or swelling afterward. Avoid sun exposure before and after treatment. IPL should never be used on dark or olive complexions.

Possible Side Effects
Side effects are possible. Some patients may find treatment uncomfortable--quick snapping pulses. Bruising can occur, prolonged hypopigmentation (stripping), blistering can occur, or a sensation of a minor sunburn (swelling and redness)--may last 3-7days..

Costs
Prices vary. Full face treatments are usually sold in packages --Series of five treatments is about $2300 in Victoria, BC.

Roseacea patients can benefit from a DF Facials (will thicken the skin with its own collagen so the red doesn't show through)or MicroNeedling:

Beware of individuals who call themselves "laser techs"--there's isn't a school for laser techs. Make certain the person who is treating you has had plenty of experience and some form of a medical background(i.e. nurse). Never treat while having a tan or if you have dark / olive skin.
